As we prepare for the 2027 Texas Christian Writers’ Conference, we’re excited to launch TCWC News & Resources—a place to share encouragement, practical writing and publishing insights, faculty introductions, and updates about the conference.
There’s something special about gathering with people who share your mission.
We’re less than five months away from the 2027 Texas Christian Writers’ Conference, and plans are taking shape beautifully!
One of the most encouraging things over the past few months has been hearing people talk about TCWC—people who didn’t attend last year but have heard from those who did.
“She said I have to come next year!”
“He told me it was so great!”
“Finally, a Christian writers’ conference here in Texas!”
Those conversations mean so much to me.
When we launched the Texas Christian Writers’ Conference, our desire was to create a place where Christian writers could learn, connect, and encourage one another as they develop their God-given gifts. Hearing that attendees left wanting to share their experiences with others is such a blessing.
But last week, I was reminded that there’s something even more meaningful about gathering with people who share our mission.
When We Gather, We Gain Perspective
I attended a local women’s ministry leadership event, and it reminded me why we gather as the big-C Church.
So much of what we do each day is ministry—or at least it can be when we approach our work with that perspective.
Whether we’re writing books, teaching classes, encouraging others, leading organizations, or simply showing up faithfully in our daily responsibilities, we have opportunities to serve God through the work He’s placed before us.
But it’s easy to get so focused on the work that we lose sight of the bigger picture.
We put our heads down. We meet deadlines. We tackle the next thing on our to-do lists.
Without necessarily meaning to, we can isolate ourselves (writers are especially good at that).
That’s one reason gathering matters.
When we step away from our routines and spend time with others who share our mission—even when they’re approaching it from different angles—we begin to see things from a fresh perspective.
We discover new ideas and possibilities.
We’re inspired to approach familiar challenges in new ways.
Sometimes we find the encouragement to try something new. Other times, we’re simply refreshed and affirmed that we’re headed in the right direction.
I left that event so encouraged, reminded that God delights when His people come together with a desire to grow.
Three Ways We Grow When We Gather
As I’ve reflected on that experience, I’ve been thinking about three kinds of growth I hope every attendee experiences at the Texas Christian Writers’ Conference.
1. We grow individually.
Writing is both an art and a skill. No matter how long we’ve been writing, there’s always something new to learn.
At a writers’ conference, we have opportunities to strengthen our craft, learn from experienced authors and publishing professionals, explore new ideas, and discover practical ways to move forward.
Maybe you’ll learn a technique that transforms your manuscript. Maybe you’ll gain clarity about your publishing options. Or perhaps you’ll finally find the confidence to take the next step you’ve been putting off.
Professional growth matters because the messages and stories we’ve been entrusted with deserve our best efforts.
2. We grow together.
Writing can be a solitary pursuit, but it doesn’t have to be a lonely one.
There’s something wonderful about sitting across the table from someone who understands why you spend hours wrestling with the perfect words. Someone who knows the challenges of revising a manuscript, navigating the publishing industry, or balancing writing with all of life’s other responsibilities.
At TCWC, we’re intentional about creating opportunities for genuine relationships.
Our smaller, more relational conference environment allows writers to connect with faculty, publishing professionals, and fellow attendees through workshops, meals, appointments, and conversations throughout the event.
Those relationships can lead to new ideas, collaborations, mentoring opportunities, and friendships that continue long after the conference ends.
Sometimes the most valuable thing you take home from a writers’ conference isn’t something you wrote in your notebook. It’s the connection you made with someone who understands your journey.
3. We grow closer to God.
This is what makes gathering at a Christian writers’ conference particularly meaningful to me.
We’re not simply coming together because we share an interest in writing and publishing. We’re coming together because we share a faith that shapes how we see the world and how we approach our work.
Whether we write fiction or nonfiction, for Christian audiences or the general market, we have opportunities to reflect God’s truth, beauty, creativity, and love through the words we share.
At TCWC, we want to create space not only for learning but also for worship, reflection, encouragement, and meaningful conversations about faith and calling.
I believe God can use those moments to refresh our spirits, renew our vision, and remind us why we started writing in the first place.
More Than a Conference
Of course, we’re working hard to put together an outstanding conference for 2027.
We’re planning practical workshops, opportunities to meet with agents, publishers, and editors, and time to connect with experienced authors who genuinely want to help other writers grow.
I want every attendee to leave with tools and knowledge they can immediately apply to their writing and publishing goals.
But I also want something more.
I want you to leave encouraged.
Refreshed.
Inspired to keep going.
And reminded that the words you write matter—and that you don’t have to walk this journey alone.
As I think back on that women’s ministry luncheon, I’m reminded once again that something special happens when God’s people gather with a shared purpose.
My prayer is that at TCWC, you’ll find opportunities to grow individually, grow together, and grow closer to Him.
And I’d love for you to be part of it.
